The Groove Tubes GT-12AT7 preamp tube is manufactured to the highest quality JAN spec. NOS, made in USA for extremely long life. Used widely in most U.S.-made amps and, in particular, Fender amps. Fender amps with reverb use 2 - 12AT7s - one for the reverb drive stage, and one as a phase inverter to drive the push/pull output stage. The makeup of the 12AT7 is very similar to the 12AX7 and it can be substituted for a 12AX7 in a pinch. Some players prefer the 12AT7 in the driver stage of a Marshall for a cleaner, brighter tone. (The driver or phase inverter is the 12AX7 located nearest the power tubes.) The 12AT7 is rarely used in a tone-generating stage, but rather in function stages, so the Groove Tubes GT-12AT7 is selected for durability.

The Groove Tubes GT-12AU7 preamp tube is based on a design from the Ei factory in the former Yugoslavia. The GT-12AU7 is an excellent quality large-plate European-made driver tube, styled after the famous Telefunken line of dual triodes. The usual application for a 12AU7 tube is as the phase inverter that drives the power tubes. These are very well matched, and so are highly recommended for Ampeg SVT's and other amps using this tube as a phase inverter. Also commonly used as phase inverters in McIntosh Hi-Fi amps, some Ampeg amps, and will yield the most clean headroom in many amps.

In the latest Fender Pro Series amps such as the Pro Reverb, Concert, and Twin, this tube in V2 (or a 12AY7), will drop the gain of the gain channel where some feel the tone is of a less intense or "buzzy" character. This will then allow a much wider range in the sweep of the volume and gain controls of this channel.

The Groove Tubes Gold Series GT-12AX7-R Preamp Tube is an older-style Russian-type vacuum tube with strong tone and a slightly edgy tone. This newer tube from Russia has slightly brighter and lower gain, quicker compression than the GT 12AX7. Great for most Fender amplifiers, especially lower gain Fender-type amps.

The most common rectifier tube used in higher powered amps which use a rectifier such as Fender 40 watt and Vox AC-30 amplifiers. Common to higher powered tube amps, like the later Fender Super Reverb amps and the Vox AC30 (or Matchless copies). May be used to replace a 5U4 or 5Y3 and will give a faster more dynamic tonal result. This rectifier has a rise time from 300-400 volts that is about 1/2 that of a 5U4. They work nicely in amps such as the Mesa Rectifier series which use the 5U4. Great if you want a feel and response that is tighter than stock rectifiers yet you want to retain the feel and compression character of a vacuum rectifier over the solid-state setting. y y

The Groove Tubes GT5U4|GZ32 rectifier tube is commonly found in many medium powered amplifiers such as the Fender Blackface amps. The Gold Series GT-5U4 is the factory selected rectifier for the Mesa Dual and Triple rectifier series. Common to medium powered amps like the earlier Fender Super Reverbs and Bandmasters. May be used to replace a 5Y3 for improved dynamics and power. Also some players have replaced their 5AR4 (GZ34) with the 5U4 in their Vox AC30 amps to reduce heat and extend the life of the power tubes. Groove Tubes recommends this procedure as a stability enhancer, if you can live with the slightly lower power.

The Groove Tubes Gold Series GT-5Y3|GZ30 is a rectifier tube common to lower-powered Fender amplifiers such as the Champ, Princeton and Deluxe amps. This Gold Series vacuum tube can be used in many 5AR4 and 5U4 amps for lower levels. This Groove Tubes rectifier may be used in amps such as the Matchless DC-30 series and similar amps when you want more compression, less attack, and to lower the voltages in these amps. The GT-5Y3 rectifier gives a nice feel to these amps with a much slower rise time than the 5AR4 or the 5U4, with a great feel. The Groove Tubes GT-5Y3 rectifier will also let amps such as the Matchless distort at a lower volume to make them suitable for smaller venues and to record sweetly at lower settings.
