I played this bass in a store and was impressed. I couldn't figure out why some people were giving it such dismal ratings. I don't think it would be too great for metal, but I play blues and classic rock and it sounds just fine. One thing to remember is that if you buy an Epiphone or a Squier, it won't come to you ready to play. If you can't do your own set up, spend the money to have somebody do it for you. Makes all the difference in the world.
